USB over Remote Desktop, Forwarding an F-Response Dongle with Microsoft RemoteFX
Jun 11, 2014
It should come as no surprise to both recent and long term F-Response customers that we are big fans of USB forwarding technology. We routinely demo F-Response products with USB-Over-Ethernet software to enable access to the complete application without a locally attached dongle.
Recently we had a customer inquire about using Microsoft Server 2012r2 and the new RemoteFX USB device forwarding technology to forward an F-Response dongle to a remote analyst Windows 2012r2 server.
This was certainly not something we had done before, however working with the customer and Microsoft themselves we made some subtle updates to F-Response (included in 5.0.3) that would allow you to forward F-Response dongle(s) from your examiner machines to remote Windows 2012r2 examiner machines via RemoteFX.
Since the process isn't exactly straight forward we put together one of our stanadard Mission Guide/Support Guides outlining the process step by step.
While we will certainly continue to recommend USB-Over-Ethernet, this is a great option for those with Microsoft 2012r2 systems that are interested in performing all dongle forwarding over Remote Desktop.
You'll find the Support Guide on our Mission Guides and Documentation page, or you can open it directly here.
Happy Forwarding!
