F-Response v 8.0.1.54 Released

Apr 21, 2020

We're going to try and resist the urge to cover the pandemic. Basically by now you've heard how we are all in it together, or that we'll get through it. Both of which are true, but to be honest, we're betting you don't need to hear it from us.

So instead we're going to focus on what F-Response has been up to, other than scavenging the wasteland for toilet paper.
The first big thing we did was take a hard look at deployment for Consultant + Covert, Enterprise, and Universal. One of the features we used to have was the ability to deploy using the currently logged in user. This was a great option for those of you with smart cards or other two factor authentication. Sadly we didn't have a way to bring it forward to v8, or at least we didn't think we did.

See what having a lot of time on your hands at home can do?

Now F-Response v8 has the ability to deploy using current user credentials again. You'll find that update and others in the latest release on our website.

What about those F-Response Universal fixes?

This one was a lot tougher to pin down. Some users were reported double-up entries in the F-Response Universal Management Console. The three part design of Universal made that a tricky one to reproduce and even harder to solve. In the end, it proved to be a minor update that effected the Management Console only. So, if you'd rather wait to upgrade your Universal Server, that's fine, you can get the fix just by replacing your Windows Examiner software installation.

You'll find all the updates in the downloads page.

Is there anything else going on?

Yes, a lot.

F-Response has a new product coming, one that I think will be an excellent fit for the challenges of a modern, sparsely connected world. More on that in the coming weeks as we wrap up the manual, mission guides, and produce a handful of videos.

In the meantime, we've been doing a lot of demos on classic F-Response and how you can use it to provide forensic services over WAN or VPN connections. We've got a great whitepaper on exactly that on our website, be sure to grab it if that's something that might help you.

Regardless, thanks for taking the time to get up to speed with what's going on here at F-Response, and for your patience when we answer the phones with dogs barking or kids shouting. We promise to do the same for you.

Lastly, keep your eyes peeled a new product very soon, and please be safe.

Sincerely Yours,
M. Shannon, Principal
