Cyber Forensics and a *still* Uncertain World

I originally wrote this article last year and wondered if I was being a little hyperbolic. Now, in 2026, I'm wondering if I'm underselling it? Simply put, this is a challenging time. Without going into the specifics, I'm sure all of us can point to something that is drastically different now than it was even six months ago, and this thing, whatever it is, has had a direct impact on our lives.

Change is difficult to process. Human beings like consistency, certainty. We like to know that when we do X, Y will happen. Business likes that too. It's rarely bad news that spooks the market as badly as "uncertainty" does.

We like to know things, even lousy things, because once we know them we can take steps to improve our situation.

Even if those steps are little more than avoiding making things worse.

Bottom line, uncertain times make for challenging decisions. As such, we need easy options and simple solutions to the problems we can actually control.

That's why we built F-Response.

F-Response Collect is our easiest product to use. You set it and forget it.

Collect is a throwback to an older era, where we owned our own data and knew who had access to our servers. You install Collect on a server (cloud-based if you want), then get the subject software on one or more remote machines. These subject systems talk to your Collect Server and receive instructions. It gives you the ability to collect remote machine data (disks, volumes, Windows memory, profiles, MFT's, and custom content) with little, if any, manual intervention. What's more, if they lose connectivity, there's nothing you need to do to restart them. The subjects will figure it out for themselves and immediately resume uploading data when network operations are restored.

Want to image physical memory on computer X? Create a collection with Collect.

Want a physical disk image of the C:\ volume on machine Y? Create a collection with Collect.

Want to collect all the .pst and .xls files on machine Z? Create a collection with Collect.

Best of all, we don't charge by the subject license. So you are welcome to pull data from as many machines as you want. One price fits all.

We feel like a little 'simple and straight-forward' goes a long way in 2026. We can't change uncertain times, but we can be consistent ourselves.
